The menu itself is a delightful journey through robust flavors and fresh ingredients. Starters like the Fried Green Tomatoes—crisp and tangy with creamy goat cheese, crispy bacon, and a hint of sweet datil chili sauce—engage your palate instantly. The Bridge of Lions French Onion Soup is comfort in a bowl, rich and savory with perfectly caramelized onions and melted cheese, evoking a sense of warmth and nostalgia.
Entrees at River & Fort impress with generous portions and thoughtful preparation. The Stuffed New York Strip promises hearty satisfaction for steak lovers, while the Scallops with Garlic Sauce offer a delicate balance of buttery richness and vibrant aromatics that truly sing. For seafood aficionados, the Shrimp Plate and Broiled Oysters deliver fresh, briny flavors that resonate with the coastal setting.
Creative twists continue through the menu with dishes like the Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon, combining tenderness and smoky depth, and the Chopstick Wings, which hint at a fusion of Asian-inspired spices and the classic American wing experience. The inclusion of unique appetizers such as deviled eggs topped with caviar and blackberry further underscores the kitchen’s flair for elevating comfort food into fine dining territory.
Even the dessert selection is carefully crafted to leave a lasting impression. The Key Lime Crème Brulee features a velvety custard infused with Florida’s signature key lime, delivering a bright and creamy finish, while the Chocolate Pots de Crème indulges chocolate lovers with its sinfully rich torte and smooth custard base.
Beyond the exquisite food, diners consistently praise the impeccable service and the welcoming atmosphere. One reviewer reminisced about their anniversary dinner, highlighting how the server Jesse provided perfect recommendations and made the rooftop lounge experience truly unforgettable. Another birthday celebration was marked by warm, personal touches and excellent food, from crab/corn soup to a delectably moist hummingbird cake.
Whether it’s a quiet dinner or a lively gathering during the City’s famous Nights of Lights festival, River & Fort gracefully handles busy nights with professionalism and charm, ensuring each guest feels valued despite the bustling environment.

This is a lovely restaurant with views of Castillo de San Marcos and the Matanzas River. The service and ambience are super nice. My entire party enjoyed the food. I ordered the River & Fort Burger (vegan patty, dairy cheese). It was okay, but I do prefer a black bean patty in my burger versus the Impossible Meat (or similar) patty. It’s just a personal preference.
We were here during nights of lights and man o man were the out of towners being so mean to the staff. It was very busy. Our wait was 30-45min. We were totally fine with that being that we could walk around the Castillo in the meantime. Shame on other customers berating the staff btw. Anyways once we got our table our waitress was amazing, and the food was good. Pretty in presentation and certainly tasty but nothing mind blowing. Still was a great experience!
I loved this place! The food and service were excellent! Meaghan was friendly and hard-working. She made my birthday celebration special. I loved the crab/corn soup, salmon, and hummingbird cake. The cake was a first for me and it was amazing! The flavors came together nicely for all that I ordered. It was a great dining experience!
ASK FOR JESSE! We had Ana amazing dinner here celebrating our anniversary. Jesse nailed the recommendations. The food was fabulous, ambiance was fun and beach. We did have a reservation and I would highly recommend having one. We did show up early so we could check out the roof top - this is first come first serve and was packed when we arrived. We waited a few minutes for seats, so worth it. This is the perfect spot for a special occasion celebration, birthday, graduation, etc! Really enjoyed dining here, everything was awesome!!
10 out of 10!! We had the best dinner! Came here for my birthday with my husband and I can’t say enough good things about the food, service, and waitstaff! Our server was awesome about giving us time to ponder over drinks and the menu, we started with the calamari and it was perfect, I loved the fried peppers that came with it! I had the French dip with fried and my husband had the ocean platter - we both agreed everything was amazing, we had the espresso martinis and hummingbird cake for dessert ( I highly recommend) it was like banana nut bread as a cake!! I loved the relaxed vibe along with the high end feel, nothing felt rushed like they were trying to flip tables and we were just able to relax and take our time! Next time we are in St. Augustine we will 100% be back!!
The host, server, and most of the food was great. The Canonball shrimp and lobster tails were big portions and really good. I would also recommend the Cannonball cocktail. The main dishes did take a while but we did go on a Saturday evening. Or Mac n cheese and potatoes were cold. We made reservations and we arrived 15 min early. We had to wait to exactly our reservation time in order to be seated.
Our anniversary dinner here was everything we could hope for. Service was spot on. The house favorite appetizer is the fried green tomatoes. Garnished with goat cheese, bacon, and pickled veggies, it was a masterpiece. My "conquistador" old fashioned was a wonderful take on the classic. My wife had the seafood platter, a fine mix of shrimp, scallops and flounder. I had the stuffed new york strip. Wow, what a fun take. Shrimp and boursin cheese filled the steak, with a herb and scallops butter on top. The parmesan saffron risotto was creamy and complimented all the other flavors. After dinner we went up to the top deck to enjoy the beignets. The view was almost as good as the fresh made donuts. They have something gooey inside, we think its cookie dough! Yum. Cheers!
